David brings nearly two decades of experience in public accounting, business, and wealth management to his work as a financial advisor. As a CPA and financial advisor, David brings a different perspective to wealth management—one that places tax planning at the center of the financial planning process.
David began his career in public accounting in 2008, developing extensive experience working with individuals, families, and business owners. In 2011, he joined Lee, MacBay, Hamilton & Associates, where he became a partner in 2019. His years in public accounting have provided him with a deep understanding of how taxes can affect investment decisions, retirement income, business ownership, and the long-term transfer of wealth.
In 2022, David founded Oak Spring Financial with the goal of providing clients with thoughtful, comprehensive financial guidance built around their individual circumstances and goals. Rather than viewing investments in isolation, David believes financial decisions should be considered in the context of a client's overall financial and tax picture.
This tax-centric approach allows David to look at wealth management from a different angle. Investment strategies, retirement distributions, charitable giving, insurance, business interests, and estate-planning considerations can all have significant tax consequences. By bringing his accounting background into the financial planning process, David seeks to help clients make more informed decisions and pursue greater after-tax efficiency over the course of their financial lives.
David earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of South Carolina-Upstate and a Master of Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting from Winthrop University. He holds FINRA Series 7 and Series 66 securities registrations and is also insurance licensed.
Outside of his professional life, David is a member of Mt. Calvary Presbyterian Church and enjoys traveling and spending time with his wife and their two daughters. He is also actively pursuing his Private Pilot License, reflecting his lifelong interest in aviation and his enjoyment of learning new skills.
David believes that effective wealth management is about more than investment returns. It is about understanding the entire financial picture and making decisions that work together. His goal is to help clients understand where they are today, where they want to go, and how thoughtful financial and tax planning can help them pursue those goals.
